Abstract:
acceleration of the onset and intubation times of the non-depolarizing muscle relaxants (NDMR) would be advantageous insituations where rapid tracheal intubation is required and suxamethoniumis undesirable or contra-indicated. Such acceleration has been achievedby using ”the priming principle” which refers to the administration of asmall (priming) dose of a non-depolarizing muscle relaxant few minutes(priming interval) prior to the administration of the larger (intubating)dose. Adequate relaxation can be obtained in one half to two-thirds thetime required when the full dose is administered as a single bolus dose. This study comprised 150 selected patients ASA classification Iand II undergoing elective surgical interference that required endotrachealintubation and muscle relaxation. All patients were subjected to thoroughpreoperative history taking, clinical examination and routine laboratoryinvestigation as some liver and kidney function tests.Out of this number 10 patients were taken as a control groupwhere suxamethonium was used as the intubating drug.
