Abstract:
Secretory otitis media, defined as a collection of fluid of variable characterin the middle ear cavity, is one of the commonest diseases of children.The aim of this work is to study the pathological changes of middle earmucosa in cases of secretory otitis media and treated surgically by myringotomyalone or with intubation by ventitating tubes in ear drum.Thirty two pateitns suffering from secretory otitis media were selected fromZagazig University Hosptial. Their ages ranged from four to forty years. Theywere 20 males and 12 females.They were subjected to the following procedures :• Complete history taking .• Complete E. N. T. examination.• Otomicroscopic examination.• Audiometry and tympanometry.• Biopsies from middle ear mucosa covering promontory were taken.• Histopathological study under light microscope.Most patients were presented with hearing impairment. Occasionally withims or earache. The main findings were peripheral vascularization of theead with loss its 1uster. The colour of tympanic membrane was changed andmiddle ear appeared not aeriated, Occasionally hair line or air bubbles wereserved. Impaired in the mobility of the tympanic membrane and retracted
