Abstract:
The necessity and safety of surgical reduction of enlargedturbinates became accepted, nowadays, by most ofotolaryngologists. Various surgical procedures could be performed,of these, total inferior turbinectomy, partial inferior turbinectomyand middle turbinectomy were chosen to fulfill this study.This work was attempted to compare efficacy of these threesurgical treatments for the relief of nasal obstruction. Thematerial of this work was forty patients. There was seventeenpatients subjected to total inferior turbinectomy, twelve for partialinferior turbinectomy and eleven for middle turbinectomy. Asubjective measurement using patient questionnaire and anobjective measurement using anterior active rhinomanometrywere used. Rhinomanometry was used preoperatively and at leasttwo months postoperatively.Although, total inferior turbinectomy gave highly significantresults, still postoperative complications were risky specially thedry nose syndrome.
