Abstract:
the Term ”vertigo” is generally used to denotethe subjective sensation by rotatory movement, eitherof the individual or of the environment.Vertigo can be produced by any lesion affectingthe labyrinths, the vestibular portion of the 8thcranial nerve, and their nuclei or connections inthe brain stem. A peripheral vestibular disorder1S present in 85% of patients and a central disorderin 15%.In this Thesis, we discussed in details thepathog enes is of non-labyrinthine vertigo, whichmay be the result of vascular accidents, epilepsy,drug intoxication, Tumours of eNS, Trauma to thebrain stem, thyroid hypofunction, infectious diseasesof eNS, glial diseases such as disseminated sclerosisand finally the ocular causes.Vertigo in lesions of eNS often indicates thatthe brain s tern in involved, and as it is a compactpart of the brain, any lesion involving it andcausing vertigo, usually involve other cranial nerveswhich will result in a variety of neurological signs.
