Abstract:
Th.s work was carried out in the Internal Medicine, MedicalBiochemistry and Radiology departments, Faculty of Medicine, ZagazigUniversity between March, 2003 and October, 2005.This study aims at estimating serum level of cystatin C in patients withfunctional renal failure associated with liver cirrhosis and evaluating its value asa marker of early detection of renal impairment in cirrhotic patientsEighty individuals were included in this study, their ages ranged from24 to 63 years with mean ±SD 44.7±8.8 years. They were classified into thefollowing two main groups.1- Group I (Control group): It included 20 adult healthy volunteers (13males and 7 females) with age ranged from 25 to 51 years with mean ±SD38.7±6.8 years. All ofthem had normal Liver and renal function.2-Group II: It comprised 60 cirrhotic patients- Subgroup IIa: comprised 20 cirrhotic patients (12 males and 8females) with age ranged from 24 to 63 years with mean ±SD 44.3±9.3 yearsand creatinine clearance ~ 70 ml/min.- Subgroup Ilb: It included 20 cirrhotic patients (15 males and 5females) with age ranged from 38 to 60 years with mean ±SD 48.0 ±6.4 yearsand creatinine clearance 40-69 ml/min.- Subgroup lIe: It comprised 20 cirrhotic patients (12 males and 8females) with age ranged from 27 to 60 years with mea ±SD 47.9±9.5 years andcreatinine clearance < 40 ml/min.[132 ]
