Abstract:
the present study aimed at throwing more light upon the associationof bilharziasis with oxaluria most1y as calcium oxalate, which can beattributed to increased levels of blood calcium and its subsequent excre-tion and the role of parathyroid hormone in this disorder has to beillucidated. We aimed to study this point particularly in correlationwith the calcium - phosphorus - magnesium levels in sera and theirexcretion. The study included twenty male patients with urinary lithiasis.Ten of them were suffering from simple schistosomal infestations, whilethe other were cases of complicated schistosomal affections. The~tients were carefully selected to eliminate urinary tract infection,~ well as kidney dysfunctio~ complications.Fifty reference casesof similar age and sex were also studied as normal controls. Theideal investigation would have included direct determination of para-However, due to shortages in the availablethyroid hormone activity.
