Abstract:
SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONIn our research we study the effects of antiepileptic drugs on plasma lipoprotein (a) and other lipids, including (total cholesterol, triglycerides, high density lipoprotein and low density lipoprotein). This study was conducted at Zagazig University, Hospital, pediatric department on 100 children, 20 healthy children as a control group (G I) and 80 known epileptic patients suffered from different types of epilepsy and received treatment for more than 1 year.Divided into:G II: patients receiving VPA with mean age 5.92.8, G III; patients: receiving CBZ with mean age 8.33.0, G IV; receiving VPA plus CBZ with mean age 7.32.7 and G IV: receiving PB with mean age 3.11.2 our results showed that: Mean serum levels of antiepileptic drugs used were within the normal therapeutic range. No correlation was noticed between serum levels of AEDs and all the studied parameters (LP(a), TC, TG, HDL-C, LDL-C). Also, there was no correlation the time elapsed since the start of therapy and all studied parameters except for LP (a) in group IV (VPA + CBZ) and group (V) (PB group) found to be had a significantly positive correlation with the duration of the drugs used.
