Outcome of repair of abdominal in cishernia using polypropylene

Abstract:
The aimof the work is to evaluate the out of different techniques of implantation of polypropylene graft inrepair of abdominal incisional hernia.Two groups of patients were included in the Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine,Zagazig University in the period from November 1999 through October 2000.Group I (prospective): This group included 48 patients studied prospectively for earlyoutcome after repair of their primary or recurrent incisional hernias using polypropylene meshimplantation. Patients included 30 females, mean of age was 47 years and 18 males, of mean of agewas 52 years with mean of body mass index of 34 Kg! m2 with mean of size of defect of hernia of120 cm2•These patients were divided into 40 patients with primary incisional hernia and 8 patientswith recurrent hernia. Among of the 8 with recurrent hernia, there were five underwent repair oftheir hernia once and two patients twice and only one patient underwent repair for three times.Repair of incisional hernia included implantation of polypropylene (Marlex) mesh in allpatients with different sites of implantation, 31.25% extrafascial, 25% preperitoneal, 20.8%intraperitoneal and 22.9% combined fascia and mesh.
