lactic acid as a predictor for erythrocyte transfusion in healthy preterm infants with anemia of prematurity

The aim of this study is to determine whether blood lactate level, could identify healthy preterm infant with anemia of prematurity who might benefit from blood transfusion. Also, this study was carried out to investigate the relatological parameters in these infants and the effect of blood tranfusion on these relation.The present study inclded 33 health preterm infants, received no medications except for theophylline and prophylactc antibiotics, required no intravenous fluids or oxygen therapt.
