Abstract:
The principal adhesion receptor on leukocyte for C.albicans is called CDl/b/CDI8. The ability ofC. albicans to modulate its function and suppress the phagocytic activity to candida was done throughthis receptor.Candida also can induce activation of NK and LAK cells and induce production of IL2 in vivo from such cells, which in tum activate the professional anticandidal phagocytes. This work was done to assess the function of polymorphnuclear leukocytes by detecing the expression of CDIII/CD” on PMN cells, and its relation to the natural killer cells (CD1e,5.) and lymphokine activated killer cells(CDz5) as an anticandidal defense mechanisms in NID diabetic patients with candidal infection and its clinical evaluation. Our study was carried out on 50 subjects divided into the following groups: -Group I: 10 apparently healthy individuals included as controlgroup.Group II: 10 NIDDM patients without candidal infection.Group III: 30 NIDDM patients with candidal infection. All groups were subjected to the following laboratory investigations: All groups were subjected to the following laboratory investigations:1. Fasting and post prandial serum glucose level, cholesterol and triglycerides.2. Complete blood count.3. Phagocytosis to assess PMN function.4. Identification of isolated candida species from the affected sites:• Culture on sabouraud’s dextrose agar.• Gram stain.• Germ tube formation.• Culture on rice agar.• Culture on Biggy agar.• Sugar assimilation5. Monoclonal analysis by flowcytometry including.• CD), 16.56 as Natural killer marker.• CD1) t/CD1s as leukocyte adhesion molecule.• CD2S as IL2 receptor marker for LAK cell activity.
