Abstract:
Nasal septal perforations of various etiologies have been seen by mostotolaryngologists. Those perforations which are asymptomatic or controlled bymedical management do not required further attention. Surgical management isusually required for the perforations that continue to cause whistling, crustingand bleeding.Patient with nasoseptal perforations were choosen from outpatient clinicof zagazig university hospitals. All patients were subjected to clinicalexamination followed by laboratory investigations. In addition torhinomanometric studies before and after the operation. All patients were repaired with conchal cartilage as free graft and followup for 3 months.Four out of the seven were repaired successfully with complete closureof perforation and relief of symptoms. Three cases were unsuccessful, in onecase the perforation not taken the graft completely and in the other two casesthe perforations were smaller than before.Rhinomonometric studies for the effect of small sized nasa-septalperforation (less than 2 em in diameter) and situated anteriorly on nasal air flowbefore and after repair with cartilage graft were not significant. Instead of slightimprovement after the operations in both expiratory and inspiratory air flow.from the present study it is concluded that utilization of this procedure inappropriate cases of septal perforations is very helpful in most of the cases.
