Abstract:
This work involved the study of changes that occur in someminerals ~efore and nfter dialysis in chronic renal failure.~he study ~eals with 40 sub~ects divided 1n~o two groupsas followa,-1 - Control group • 10 normal sub,ects.2 - Chronio re~Q.l fa.ilure group I ;0 easee (24 lll£l.les - 6females’. Their o.gea range4 from 16 - 61 years.20 eases wer.e treat~d by haemod1alys1s. while 10 caseswere treated by peritoneal di~lysis. All the eases were subjeoted to 0. therough clinicalemminn.tion and bioohemica.l study for bloo4 \Ires. nnd serumcreatinine.4 minerals were mea~ed : calcium, 1nor~t. phosphorus, potassium and sodium in the serum of the patients,The following observations were obtained :1 -’ Serum calcium : showed a highly Significant decreasebefore dialysis which ooy be attJ;”ibuted to the reduotionin calcium absorption ’from the upper small intestine dueto f’nilure of conversion 25 ”(OH)vito.m.in D) to 1,25 (OH)2vitamin DJ by diseased kidneys. After dialysis a elightincrea.se in serum caloitun wns obt~ined but still a statistic-ally low when compared to normal control. The slight increasein serum caloiumafter dialysis e attribut d to the r1Gein protein bound co.lc1um.
