Abstract:
Summary he aim of this work is to stud, the problems ofanaesthesia in a jaundiced patient. The discussion have included normal and abnormal bilirubin metabolism and pathogenesis of hyper-bilirub-inaemia. This work also deal with the general and meta-bolic functions of the liver, especially, the role of the I1ver in bilirubin metabolism. It included also, the definition, types of jaundice and aetiology of each type. A special stress is made onthe liver function tests, particularly, blood tests, <scanning of the liver, radiography, needle biopsy of the live~ urine and stool tests. In this work, it has been found that the effect of <anaesthesia and surgery on the liver have been poorly understood and extremely complex. It has been found that the extrinsic factors that affect the incidence of liverdysfunction due to anaesthesia such 8S hypercapria, hypoxia, sympathetic stimulation, alternations in the hepatic blood flow, the lTIagnitude of surgical stress and physical status of the patients all these factors has deleterious effects on the l.iver functions of jaundi- br>ced patient.
