Abstract:
The present study aims to explore the feasibility of ketamine-thiopentone combination With spontaneous ventilation for surface surgery, as a balanced total intravenous anaesthetic technique. It proves. to be safe, allowing ca.1’diovascular stability and clear airway With adequate ventilation. It also provides an adequate analgesia and minimizes the incidence and severity of the post-operative psychomimetic reactions produced by ketamine when used alone. The duration of surgical anaesthesia is prolonged although the doses given of each drug are reduced. It eliminates the dangers of pollution of theatres with anaesthetic gases and vepours. It is of’advantage in circumstances where anaesthetic - gases are not available. It provides a step in the process of I!Tamingll of the interesting agent: Ketamine
