Abstract:
A comparison of Bupivacaine and lignocaine for intravenous regional analgesia was carried out in twenty patients presenting mainly for upper limb surgery. Ten patients received lignocaine and another 10 received Bupivacaine. Onset of analgesia and recovery times were faster for lignocaine, which was used in a dose of mg/kg body weight of % solution. Adverse effects were seen nly in patients receiving lignocaine in the form of dizziness and vpotension, no eNS reactions. One failure due to a technical error result of faulty insertion of the needle, that needed a general testhetic. Onset of analgesia was considerably rapid for the ivacaine group, profound relaxation occurred in over 50% of cases. dverse effects were encountered. Both analgesia and relaxation were significantly better in lpivacaine group.
