Abstract:
The aim of” this work·was to study the frequency of dermatophytes which are responsible for some fungal skin infections that constitute a big group of skin diseases in Sharkia Governorate. 104 patients of both sexes and different ages comprised the material of our study. They were collected from the outpatient clinic of skin and venereal diseases at Zagazig University Hospital, and were classified into 6 groups according to their clinical diagnosis. Selected materials inCluding hairs and/or scales were collected from the lesions in every case. ’l’hey were subjected to mycological examination including both direct microscopy and culture of the collected samples. In general trichophyton violaceum was the commonest isolated dermatophyte (in 44% of cases) followed by T. schoenleinii16%), microaporum canis (13.3%), T. Verrucosum (10.7%), epidermophyton floccosum (6.7%), T. rubrum (5.3%) and T.mentagrophytes (in 4% of cases). In group I: ”caae s of tinea capitis” scaly, black dot and kerion varieties which yielded positive fungus cultures
