Abstract:
The primary purpose of MARYSUMany health care facility is to provide the best possible care. Nurses play an important role in determining both the quality and cost of health care services. The basic quality of care given and the efficiency with which the facility operates are ultimateThe aim of the present study was to analyze the job of staff nurses working at coronary care unit, design a job description based on the analyzed data, and test validity of the designed format from the experts’ point of view.The study was conducted in the coronary care units (CCU) at Zagazig University Hospitals. The subjects of the study consists of four groups, namely staff nurses or jobholders, direct supervisors, physicians, and nursing experts. The physicians group incluData were collected using three tools, namely a self-administered questionnaire form, and observation checklist, and an opinionnaire sheet.The questionnaire form was developed by the researcher with the aim of eliciting opinions of the three groups of subjects, namely staff nurses, direct supervisors, and physicians, regarding the intended job description. It was used to determine the responsibilities of the jobholder as observed during performance in their work settThe opinionaire sheet was designed to ascertain face and content validity of the developed job description format as elicited by three different groups of experts in nursing field from different universities, namely Zagazig, Cairo and Ain Shams.The results of the study have revealed that the job title agreed upon was coronary care nurse. The job summary was “assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care for the assigned patient during the day shift” as selected by the higheRegarding accountability, student nurses, nurse aides, and housekeepers were chosen as the accountable to staff nurse working in coronary care unit, while the head nurse was chosen as a direct supervisor for the staff nurse. As for environment, the majority of staff nurses were supervising housekeeping activitiesAs for nursing documentation, only medication, intake and output, and vital signs were recorded by the majority of staff nurses, while other procedure were not recorded by them. The majority of staff nurses gave instructions to patients for discharge careRegarding face validity, also high agreement was noticed among academic nursing service administration staff. This concluded that the proposed job description was validated and agreed upon by both groups of juries.
