Abstract:
Labour is defined as the rhythmic contraction and relaxation of the uterine muscles in the process of expelling from the uterus the products of conception , the neonate and placenta ( marks, 1996 )The partograph which is a graphic recording of the progress of labour and condition of the mother and fetus , has been used , since 1970 to detect labour that is not progressing normally , to indicate when augmentation of labour is appropriate and to recoFetal monitoring is integral to midwifery practice and midwives should feel confident in their ability to utilize appropriately all the methods available to them ( Dover , 1995 ) .Aim of the study :The aim of the current study was to :1- implement a nursing program about the partogram and electronic fetal monitoring during labour .2- compare labour outcome among the electronically monitored mothers with clinically monitored mothers using the partogram .setting :this study was conducted at the obstetric department in zagazig university hospital . in the period from the 1st of November 2000 to the end of April 2001 .
