Developing future nurse leaders is one of the greatest challengesfaced by the nursing profession. (Mahoney, 2001).The term leadership brings to mind the characteristics and actionsof notable figures. Individuals are regarded as leaders because of theQualities they possessed and the decisions they made. They often had aVision of change and achieved it by imparting the need to set a newCourse and by inspiring their followers to share in their vision. ManyTimes circumstances forced them to act without much regard of theconsequences of their actions (Grimm, 2010). leadership is a process, entails influence, occurs within a group setting or context, and involvesachieving goals that reflect a common vision (Cummings et al., 2010).Nurses are leaders by nature of the profession. Regardless of theirlevel of practice or setting, nurses frequently are called upon to makedecisions and act in ways that can profoundly change the outcomes oftheir patients and the organization of which they are a part. Differentcircumstances require different qualities and styles leaders to make adecision (Beschloss, 2007).Decision-making is a regular part of modern nursing.
