Abstract:
The aim of this research work is to study the deposition and erosion processin Aswan High Dam Reservoir. Since most of sediment from the beginning ofreservoir operation (in May 1964) settled in its entrance (the Sudanese part), theresearch focused in this reach. A two-dimensional numerical model called(CCHE-2D) is used to simulate and predict the sediment transport in terms ofthe depth- averaged sediment concentration and to calculate the life time ofAHDR. Field data collected by NRI, NWRC, MWRI were used in thesimulation and calibration of the model. Statistical measurements indicated thatthe model results are accurate enough for practical purpose and hence the modelcould be used to predict the morphological changes of AHDR and hence the lifetime span of the AHDR could be estimated. The model has been applied topredict the different cross sections along Sudanese part of the reservoir, at years2010 and 2040. The results show that, the steady value of Life Time Span ofDead Zone, LTSDZ is 254 years, while the steady value of Life Time Span ofLife Zone, LTSLZ is 985 years.iv
