Abstract:
A brief outline of the existing navy submarine types is given along with their roles in modern strategic defense .The ship control functions required to mantain speed, depth and course are discussed, and the ship control systems required to provide the necessary capabilities are outlined .The goal of devising a simulation for a submarine ascent/descent at zero forward speed, and subsequently devising an appropriate controller to proide ordered depth channges and depth rates is set forth .
