Abstract:
The productivity and the performance of the solar still by using of wicked absorber sheet have been measured and compared with the conventional absorber sheet. The effect of design parameters such as: flow rates of the salinewater over the absorber sheet and flow rates of the cooling water over theouter side of the glass cover have been studied. The effect of climatic variables such as: solar radiation intensity, ambient temperature and wind velocity were highlighted.A theoretical prediction of the productivity and the performance hasbeen achieved based on the thermal analysis of the solar still. Thistheoretical prediction compared with the practical results and has a smalldeviation. The study indicated that the modified solar still with wickedabsorber sheet gives 22.67 % more in the daily productivity and 12.5 %more in the daily performance than that of the conventional solar still. This improvement occurred by using a steel mesh sheet as wick material at flow rate of 0.65 Lis of the saline water and flow rate of0.03 Lis of the cooling water over the outer side of the glass cover.
