Abstract:
The present research consist.s of finding internal . stresses, bending moment.s and shear forces for a cont.inuousstrip footing resting on an elast.ic homogeneous isot.ropic soilmedium that support.s four columns at. three equal spans withequal double cantilevers. The analysis considered t.bo effect.ofthefootingrigidity,superst.ructurerigidit.yanddimensions of f’o o t.Lrig .The experiment.al stress analysis is presented in thisthesis by using a two dimensional photoelast.icit.y techniquewhile test data were obtained and analysed using a developedcomputer program ut.ilizing t.he shear difference method ofanalysis. The elast.ic soil stratum was represent.ed by a rubberlayer with suitable dimensions and t.hickness. Twelve differentmodels were studied, where a wide range of both depth t.o spanratio(H/L)r-at.ro(C/L)andcantilevertospanwereconsidered.Interaction response of the strip f oo t.Irig loaded by acontinuous beam and rest.ing on a soil medium, idealized as anelastic half-space,’ is obtained by using t.he f’Lrri t.e e.le merrt.discretization technique with plane st.ress t.r-Lang ul.ar- element.swith 3-nodes.A comparison is then established bet.ween experimental andnumerical result.s. from these results it should be possible to
