Abstract:
1. This thesis presents the results of both exprimental and theoriticalstudy of the footing behaviour. In the exprimental study 28 reinforcedconcrete footings were prepared and tested up to failure. Square, rectangularand sloped shapes were considered. Footing dimensions were also varied.from the exprimental results the load-deflection curves, and thedistribution of deflections, flexural, punching and shear across the footingswere obtained. The effect of cracking due to flexural and punching on thebehaviour of these footings were discussed and also the modes of failure forthe tested footings. Finally, a comparative study was presented for all the tested footingsat failure load. The effect of changing the footing length to width ratio CAIn),top side angle 8 and depth on the general deformational behaviour of thefootings were illustrated and discussed. The theoritical study includes the results of the application of threedimensional finite element analyses for square and rectangular testedfootings. The resul ts represent the effect of the variation in geometry andrigidity of the footings on the distribution of compressive and tensile stressesin addition to the contact pressure under the footings and a comparisonbetween the results of the analysed footing is made. Finally, some relations and recommendations which may be useful forthe designer are introduced.
