Abstract:
Numerical solution of two-dimensional, incompressible, steady flow through a plane duct with symmetric suddencontraction in cross sectional area is presented for viscous fluid and for rotational flow of an inviscidfluid. A finite differece computer code for each case haS been developed.Irregular and multi-grid difference techniques are used. In each case the grid-independent solution is obtained. The main target is to minimize the computational time, the computer storage and so to provide an accuratesolutions with fewer grid nodes. The incomperssible two-dimensional Navier-Stockes equations are solved by the finite difference mothed(F.D.M). The solution algorithm employes a hybrid finite difference scheme for the formulation of the convective terms.Comparison between the present results and those of previous numerical and exprimental works has been made.Though the present computations were performed on (PC’s) yet the obtained results showed a very good agreement with the experimental results. Also computational time decreased byat least 20\ in comparison with the computational time of similar case studies examined by other authors.
