Abstract:
The objective of this thesis is to investigate the dynamics of ingested solid particles through the cyclone separator and predicting the collection efficiency of the cyclone and the erosion rates due to particle impacts within the inner cyclone surfaces. The effect of particle size, density and the air velocity on the cyclone collection efficiency and erosion rates is presented. Detailed flow field and particle trajectory predictions have been performed through a cyclone separator of high efficiency type. A mathematical model capable for evaluating the particle dynamics through cyclone separators and predicting the collection efficiency and associated erosion damage due to successive impacts of particles within the internal surfaces of the cyclone is presented.
