Abstract:
Decolorization of azo dye (methyl orange) has been carried out in a fixed bed electrochemical reactor .Two types of anodic fixed bed were used ; stainless steel scrap and carbon particles, the cathode was stainless steel .The variables studied were; initial dye concentration, bed height, solution flow rate and applied current at optimum conditions 60 %reduction of color was achieved in case of stainless steel and 65 %color reduction when carbon bed used.Higher reduction in color was achieved by using higher bed ,higher residence time. The rate of colour removal was quantitavely related to the operating variables The present work studied the treatment of dye effluents by using three different electrochemical cells, simple electrochemical cell, rotating disc electrode and fixed bed electrochemical cell. Batch technique was used to investigate the effect of different parameters the parameters studied for first cell are : the effect of contact time ,current density, temperature ,the parameters studied for second cell are: The efect of different rotation speed, temperature, energy consumption the parameters studied for third cell are: the effect effect of different bed heights ,the contact time ,flow rate A case study was carried out in fixed bed reactor at different height, the samples was taken from the effluent of Abo-Elsebaa industry in El-Mahala El- Kobra
