Abstract:
the aim of this study was to investigate the UV disinfection performance towards different microbial pathogens and to evaluate the effectiveness ofUV reactor in wastewater disinfection in Egypt. To achieve this main aim, the following activities were performed: 1) determining the water quality impacts on the effectiveness of lowintensity UV light to disinfect microorganisms, 2) illustrating the variability of factors governing disinfection of various water type to another in relation to bacterial types, 3) comparing the UV sensitivity of different microbial pathogens and faecal indicators in order to establ ish the required dose for a safe wastewater disinfection that can meet the allowable limits, 4) studying the extent of (dark-photo) repair in faecal indicators and pathogens after UV exposure and 5) investigating the suitable water characteristics for UV application.
