Abstract:
The work presented in this thesis is concerned with themanagement of soil investigation data. Manual and computerizedgeotechnical data management system was developed. Its function isto collate borehole records, that include information about soilproperties, ground water and provide an effective means of storageand retrieval for this geotechnical data. The data about a certainlocation is collated and prepared to get a representative borehole andthe longitude, latitude co-ordinates X, Y for this location can beobtained from plotting it in maps. Altitude co-ordinates Z can alsobe obtained from contour maps.A program has been prepared, and the principal objective wasto establish a geotechnical data management system utilizingavailable information that has already been paid for. The program isa means of obtaining additional value for money from such existinginformation. A case study was applied to Sohag Governorate whereadequate number of the roughly geotechnically investigated siteswere available. The description of the area and the geotechnicalproperties of the soils were explained in this thesis. The locationmaps, representative borehole for a certain location or for group oflocations, an imaginary borehole between two boreholes or betweentwo locations and cross sections of ground both done manually andby the aid of computer were presented. The summary andconclusions of this thesis were also presented.
