Abstract:
The stiffness and strength or reinforced concrete frames are greatlyincreased when it acts compositly with a wall (infil1). The nonlineardynamic behavior of reinforced concrete infilled frames was investigated,in this thesis, analytically and experimentally. The computer program DR!\IN-2D was used ill the analytical studyof two-bay eight-story infilled frame subjected to the N-S component ofthe 1940 El Centro earthquake. Takeda’s bilinear hysteresis model wasassumed for girders and an elasto-plastic model was assumed for columnswith axial force effects included. The parametric study is made to studythe effect of infilling on the behavior of reinforced concrete framessubjected to seismic loads and to examine the effect of infill thickness, infill rectangularity and infill panel position on the behavior (maximumdynamic responses) of infilled frames. The results presented showing thedistribution of displacement envelop, maximum inter story drift, outer andinner columns moment and ductility envelopes and girder ductility alongthe height of the structure. The results also contain the time history for topdisplacement and base moment and base shear for outer and innercolumns.Experimentally, rune modeled, one-bay one-story reinforcedconcrete, with and without infill, frames were casted and tested. Each ofthe modeled frames was subjected to cyclic lateral loads resulting fromresponse of such frame when subjected to the N-S component of the 1940
