Abstract:
STUDING LOCAL SCOUR DS LARGE HYDRAULIC STRUCTURESESPECIALLY MULTI-VENT REGULATORS REPRESENT GREAT INTERESTING FOR ALL HYDRAULIC ENGINEERS. IT IS VERY URGENT TO DEFINE THE STILLING BASINS OF MULTI-VENT REGULATORS..The present study aims to analyze the effect of different symmetric and asymmetric scenarios of gate operation on the local scour currently occurs DS the stilling basins of the heading-up hydraulic structures. The near-bed velocity was measured to be used as an indicator and tool to explain the bed deformation and local scour phenomena. A curved–hollowed deflector was proposed to control the scour activities DS the floor. Moreover, statistical and artificial neural network models were used for predicting the local scour depth and length in addition to the near-bed velocity. To achieve these purposes, a complete set of experimental work was carried out at the Hydraulic Research Institute Laboratory, National Water Research Center, Egypt. More than 600 experimental runs were carried out within the period of January, 2004 to January, 2005
