Abstract:
In the present study, plasma sources were studied according to their types, characteristics, design parameters and applications. The study is concerned with atmospheric plasma sources, such as dielectric barrier, corona discharge, plasma torch and atmospheric pressure plasma jet. A comparison between them was performed. The plasma torch design was studied. A plasma torch is a device that is used to transform the electric energy into thermal and kinetic energies. It is consisted of two electrodes, a cathode that supplies electrons, and an anode, as well as a cooling system. As the arc is initiated between the tip of the cathode and, the anode the gas is introduced either axially or with an additional swirl component. In the present model, the gas enters the chamber axially between the cathode and the anode. A numerical model, for plasma simulation is presented.
