Abstract:
Reinforced concrete jackets are the most used method of strengthening or repair of reinforced concrete columns. In some cases there are some difficulties in constructing the reinforced concrete jacket, so thatthe steel jacket is the suitable technique. The steel jacket has manyadvantages such as saving construction time, it can be prefabricated andmore rapidly installed and less disruptive to building occupants.Researches who investigated steel jacket observed its buck ling.In this study a new technique for strengthening or repair reinforcedconcrete columns was introduced. This was achieved by using corrugatedsteel jacket. Five variables were considered including the cross section of the column, the surface treatment of the original column, the grade of thefilled concrete, the steel jacket type, and the thickness of the corrugatedsteel jacket. The structural behavior of the strengthened or repairedcolumns was investigated experimentally on 51 real concrete models. Results showed that the method of surface treatment of the originalundamaged or damaged columns, and the grade of the filled concrete donot affect on the ultimate capacity of the strengthened or repaired columnsby corrugated steel jacket, but the ultimate capacity of the columns wasincreased considerably by used corrugated steel jacket for different cross sections investigated in the study. Significant curves and conclusions were obtained.
