Abstract:
constructed. It also helps to protect the proper method of repair and the method of construction because the lack of maintenance may leads to a structural failure.During the last decades, some problems have been appeared in old masonry barrages on the River Nile as Delta barrages, Assyut barrages, Esna barrages, etc. It was found that various problems were increased in these structures and need repair. from the general review and analysis of previous experiences in the several related fields of maintenance and cases of studies, it was cleared that, the problems were not due to single factor but there were several possible causes to the problem and thus many methods of repair could be applied. Hence, the management of maintenance of masonry barrages should be considered as multi-disciplinary strategy and join efforts between persons who are involved in the problem.Under such conditions, expert system (ES) was chosen and adopted to be used as an artificial intelligence management tool in accordance with the research results achieved by experts in the field of maintenance of masonry barrages in Egypt and their successful experiences and the knowledge that was acquired through this study. It is undoubted that the application of expert systems in the field of maintenance of hydraulic structures is very important and of practical value and has great economical and social impact.A proposed expert system was built for maintenance of old masonry barrages on the River Nile using CLIPS 6.0. Expert System For Maintenance of Major Hydraulic Structures in Egypt (ESMHS). This program can help users to find the possible causes of specific problem and the method of repair depending on the description of the problem that entered to the program. The user interface is designed using Visual Basic 6.0. It is easy to use this program to enter data and get results through a few screens. The designed program was tested for many cases to ensure its accuracy as well as its validity and validation.7.2 ConclusionsThe main conclusions of the present research may be summarized as follows:1. An expert system for maintenance of masonry barrages on the River Nile using CLIPS 6.0 was proposed.
