Abstract:
This study is concerned with the characteristics ofnon-Hertzian and wavy contact problems. The classical solu-tions of contact problems has been discussed, beside thenew classification of contact problems as receding, advanc-ing and multiphase contact problems. A survey includingnQmerical and experimental models has been done.The study presents applications of the automateddirect method to solve two non-Hertzian problems. The firstone is concerned with harmonic ~rofile strata and the otheris applied on taperd profile.A photoelastic model has been developed to investigatethe effects of taperd profile angle, aspect ratio and initialcontact length on contact characteristics. The results ofthe proposed experimental model on six different specimenssubjected to 21 loading scheme, are presented and disscussed.
