Abstract:
The hot dip aluminizing process of 316L stainless steel was done in pure Al, Al-7%Si, and Al-11.5%Si molten bathes at dipping times varying from 1 min to 60 min and temperatures between 750°C and 900°C. Furthermore the 5 wt. %Fe in powder form was added to the melt at 900°C to study the effect of Fe enrichment in the melt on the intermetallic layer thickness.During this study the microstructure of coated samples was examined by light microscope and the chemical analysis of the coating layers was examined using scanning electron microscope (SEM) with energy dispersive x-ray facility (EDX). Moreover, the microhardness, oxidation and wear resistances of the aluminized samples were also investigated.
