Abstract:
This thesis examines several methods of through flow in turbomachines. These methods are normally utilized in the preliminary stage of turbomachinery design. The methods thatare’ mathematically and numerically investigated here are:the radial-equilibrium, actuator disc, streamline-curvature,quasi-orthogonals and the matrix through flow.assumption of no radial flow in the interspacing, from which the so-called radial-equilibrium equation is derived and Other methods; three strip, singularity, finite-elementand time marching are only reviewed here for completion ofthe work. The radial-equilibrium method is based on the solved to describe the radial variation of the flow properties. The actuator disc method is based on the assumption that the blade row in a turbomachine may be represented by aplane discontinuity in tangential momentum. It is applicable outside as well as inside the blade rows The reamline-curvature method is based onthe equation of motion written in terms of the local curvature of the eridional axi-symmetric streamlines. The treamlinepositions are initially assumed in the first approximation
