Abstract:
Literature survey revealed that the behaviour of two-way slabs is always preferred to that of one-way slabs in all slab types (solid slabs, ribbed slabs, hollow block slabs, ... etc.) because of the enhancedbehaviour and many other apparent advantages of the two-way type. The study was made with the aid of SAP 2000 finite element program. In addition to the expected better behaviour of waffle composite slab, the way by which the corrugated steel sheet is formed in waffle composite slab may prevent the slippage between the concrete and the steel sheet, which is considered a very serious mode of failure in composite slabs. In the present investigation, a numerical study of waffle composite slab was made. Indeed, this study needed a careful choice of the used model to represent both of the one-way and the waffle composite slab. Three models were tested namely; real model, equivalent model, and grillage model which were represented by two-dimensional and three- dimensional finite element techniques. Since there was no experimental or numerical results of the previously-made waffle slabs to evaluate the research results, it was necessary to study the behaviour of the one-way composite slab using the pre-mentioned models. The one-way composite <slab was studied by using real model, and equivalent model. In order tocheck the efficiency of the used model, the results were compared with <that reported by Porter (1977) & (1985) and An (1993), who investigatedthe experimental and numerical results of one-way composite slab, <respectively. Subsequently, waffle corrugated steel sheet composite slab <was presented using the same modelling techniques (real and equivalent) in addition to grillage model.
