Abstract:
Local scour phenomenon downstream of single vent regulators may endanger thesafety of the structure if the necessary precautions are not investigate and minimize thelocal scour activities due to the free hydraulic jump created DS single vent regulatorsAn experimental program was conducted to investigate the local scour down streama single vent regulator by designing a modified tool to control and minimize the scouractivities down stream heading-up structures. Angled-guide walls were suggested as adevice to minimize the local scour. It was found that, the guide-walls located at the secondthird of the stilling basin length act as a best performance to reduce the scour activities its. min. limit. In addition, the shape parameters (deflection angle, height, lateral spacing andthickness) of proposed guide-walls have been well defined and studied.from the analysis and discussions of the experimental results the best relativedeflection angle of guide walls is <I> = 0.02871” (10.2°), the guide walls of hlYJ = 0.5minified the different scour activities to the minimal values, the best relative lateral spacingis bolb= 0.46,As the guide walls thicknesses decrease the scour parameters also decreasesand vice versa and the optimal trapezoidal channel cross section of side slope S {b/hJ =0.29 ( 106 ° ) gave the best results of scour parameters for the cases of with and withoutguide wallsPrediction equations which were developed using the Artificial Neural Network(ANN) were used to develop an artificial intelligence model predicting the different scourcharacteristics DS the stilling basin.
