Abstract:
The main interest of this work is to study the powerdischarge of capacitor bank through a coaxial electrodes system.Such arrangement is called the coaxial gun or coaxial accelerator. It is used in jet propulsion and in triggering of discharge in turboengines or in plasma combustion arrangement. The main goal is tofind out the efficiency of the system in both cases.A coaxial plasma gun system has been constructed for thiscourse of study. The plasma gun system consists of the plasma guntube and the discharge chamber, the capacitor bank, the triggeringsystem, the vacuum system, the power supply, and Safety anddumping system.Simple and efficient diagnostic techniques were used tomeasure the different parameters concerning the coaxial dischargesystem such as the Rogowsky loop, the voltage divider, themagnetic probes, the double electric probe. Results were obtained using argon gas with an operatingpressure ranging from 0.1 Ton to 1 Torr. The peak dischargecurrent in the first half cycle was 44 kA with rise time of 6.25 usfor a bank charging voltage of 10 kVand gas pressure of 0.9 Torr. Results showed that the velocity of the sheath increased till itreached its maximum value of 5x 1 (J6 C1l1/S at the muzzle end ofthe discharge tube. Results of the double electric probe techniqueshowed an electron temperature of 5.3 eVand a density of chargedparticles of 86x 1012 cm:” at bank charging voltage of 10 kVand
