Abstract:
- 1 - <This study aims to investigate transfer deep beams on tall buildingswhich transfer shear walls of the top floors to the supporting columns.A review of the available methods for analysing the interactionbetween shear walls and its supporting beams has been presented inchapter (1).The photoelasticity technique has been used to study the interactionbetween the shear walls and the supporting deep beams. The technique isillustrated in chapter (2).The finite element method has been used to substantiate theexperimental results. The technique, element used, and flow chart forcomputer program are given in chapter (3).Twelve models were tested experimentally using the photoe.asucitytechnique Jnd numerically using the ~·ini.e clement method. The mo Jc!shave been divided on three series of shear \\’..111 models wiih differentratios of connecting beam depth/storey height which were chooscn to be0.25. 0.5. and 0.75. In each series four models were tested having fourdifferent rigidities of the trnaslcr deep beam represented by its depth to
