Abstract:
The research work in this thesis aimed to increase self-purification process for the drain’s water. The method of using self-rotating biological contactors (RBC) is considered as economic, efficient and reduced the organic pollutants of the drain’s water. These discs consist of circular plastic plates with suitable diameter which contain in between internal rips to allow moving of discs as a result of flow of the drain’s water. These discs still half submergence in the drain’s water, and rotate around horizontal axes which have been fixed on the two sides of the channel. For studying the performance of self-RBC discs, the experimental work was carried out in two successive stages. The first stage aimed to choose the best characteristics of self-RBC model which produce high disc rotational speed with low flow rate and high total surface area. This stage conducted on the WWTP-El Tell Kebir (El Tell Kebir-Ismailia). The second stage included two parts A&B. part ’A’ carried out on two stream channels constructed on the berm of Bilbeas drain, at KP 35.0. Self-RBC discs installed on the first stream pilot and the other was free in order to act natural self-purification of the stream (reference channel).
