Abstract:
This study presents an analysis of Groundwater Vulnerability in a part ofharkia Governorate that represents an agriculture production region. Theontamination from agriculture practices represents a threat on the sustainablee of this source as a good quality source.The main goals of the research are to (1) provide a spatial analysis of thelements and conditions that affect to how degree groundwater of the study areaay become contaminated, and (2) develop a model and decision supportrocess for identifying particular portions of these government that arelnerable to agricultural chemical applications, and (3) develop a pollution riskap to delineate areas that are under the threat of pollution .The used methodology in this research comprises collecting all availableta from reports, maps concerning the study area, i.e. Geology, Hydrogeology,ydrology, lithology, Land use, Irrigation and Drainage Networks, along witheld investigations; these will represent the major factors affecting aquiferlnerability. The used approaches were standard DRASTIC, modifiedRASTIC, and GOD method. And by adding the resultant vulnerability map toa map representing pollution load as a resultant of land use activities presentedon land surface, the outcome will be a pollution risk map for the research area.All data elements are incorporated, manipulated, interpreted, and displayedusing a GIS ”Geographic Information System”.The seven DRASTIC elements evaluated in the model are Depth to Water(D), Net Recharge (R), Aquifer Media (A), Soil Media (S), Topography (T),Impact of the Vadose Zone (I), and Hydraulic Conductivity (C). The finalsensitivity layer is created by using a GIS to overlay the seven individualparameter rating maps and sum their rating values. The ratings shown on thefinal sensitivity map reflect the contribution of each individual
