Abstract:
The aim of this work is to study the effect of EGR Exhaust Gas Recirculation on the performance, characteristics of a Diesel engine, under different operating conditions. The experiments are carried out on a single cylinder, direct injection Diesel engine and variable compression ratio, type Varimax TD-35. An EGR test loop is specially constructed to make a by-pass for the exhaust gases to be able to introduce again into the engine, with different and definite quantites. EGR quantity varies between 0 and 10%of the inlet charge, is passed through,a control valve inorder to control the EGR amount. An exhaust surge tank is fitted through the loop to damp pressure pulsations, and an orifice meter is used to measure EGR quantity. The experiments are carried out at, speeds of 1250rpm and 1750 rpm, and load equal to 501. and 1001. of the injection pump full rack position. During the tests, theinjection advance angle is varied to 12 ,18 ,24 CA bTDC, compression ratio is changed to 16,18,20.
