Abstract:
Numerical investrgations of steady, two-dimensional,I..I’Vincompressible, laminar flow throfgh a plane channel with7symmetric sudden expansion in cross-sectional area arepresented. Channel walls areatconstantmaintainedtemperature. The governing equations are continuity,Navier-stokes and energy equations. To simplify.scalculations, there equations are written in terms ofvorticity and stream unction. Finite difference procedure Xis used with a hybrid central/upwind differencing scheme fordiscretization of convective terms. The solution domain iscovered by irregular grid distribution. ~id independent Xsolution is ensured at different Reynolds numbers andexpansion ratios. The irrigular difference technique savesstorage capacity and computing time, and in the same time itresults in a more accurate solution.Details of flow structure and temperature field areinvestigated at different values of Reynolds number andexpansion ratio. Obtained results are in good agreement withavailable experimental and numerical results ofotherinvestigators.
