Abstract:
Corrosion rates and inhibitor efficiencies of 99.5\% aluminium in hydrochloric acid solutions have been determined with the following inhibitors: aniline, N,N dimethylaniline, N,N diethylaniline, di-n-butylamine and diethylamine. It is shown that all compounds show a maximum inhibitor efficiency at a concentration of approximately 0.1 mol L-1. Polarization studies reveal that inhibition of the additives increased in the order: aniline < N,N dimethylaniline < N,N diethylaniline < di-n-butylamine < diethylamine. The agreement between corrosion rate and inhibitor efficiencies by polarization studies and weight loss method is quite evident.
