Abstract:
Protection of power systems has been a great aim for many researches forlong time. Many solutions have been applied and a big success has been obtained.But with the great dependence on electricity a higher reliability should be attained.from here come the idea of prediction systems not to isolate the faulty zone but topredict the fault before it occurs so a corrective action can be taken. Manyapproaches have been made in this line. In our thesis a new prediction system isproposed to predict the line to ground fault on overhead lines and undergroundcables. The proposed system also gives the method of communication to the mainstation, by the use of optical fibers. A comparison between this method and otherknown methods is also represented. A prototype system has been built in thelaboratory and is well explained with its circuit diagrams. We truely believe thatthis system is applicable and can represent a method of prediction of line toground faults.
