Abstract:
ABSTRACTFoundation of heavy structures had many types, gridfooting c~n be used as a type of these foundations Itis analyzed as strip footing in two directions, in whichwe meet a problem in distribution of the column loadthrough the intersecting region of strips .Interaction response of the grid foundation andunderlying soil medium is one of the complicatedinteractive pr ob Lems In order to predict a realisticgrid performan ~e, the grid properties, as well as, soilproperties are to be considered It is :,..dealized byrepresenting the soil as a series of springs on thecontact line of the soil - footing interface .Stiffness matrix analysis has been made to modelthe grid soil installation Different factors areconsidered in the analysis, such as, the soil type, thegrid geometry and the section dimensions of thefooting . This method is used to investigate the effectsof the above mentioned factors on the deformations andcontact stress distributions in the underlying soil andthe internal forces in the grid foundation .Results obtained from the numerical investigationfor the grids internal forces, stresses, and deformationwere compared and their relationships were representedin forms of curves
