Abstract:
This thesis presents a new location management technique forcellular mobile communication networks. Location management is anessential service in mobile communication networks. The location update and search are the two important parts of any location managementtechnique. There is a trade-off between location update and search, when a mobile terminal moves. The proposed location management technique is introduced withits two parts to reduce the overhead produced when the mobile terminalsfrequently move to the same regions. Current location managementtechniques (such as GSM) are done inefficiently lI1 this case. Theproposed location management technique is based on registration orvaluable information about the subscriber such as the visited cells, and the time at which these cells were visited. These two variables areconsidered very important from technical part of view. Then, theregistered information will be used to build a profile for each subscriber. These profiles will be used to predict the subscriber location for incomingcalls. So, the proposed technique is a memory based technique and itdepends on the habits of the subscribers or subscribers’ movements. The performance of the proposed technique is evaluated in terms of the total cost of location updates and searches. The proposed technique and theother techniques are implemented and simulated. The simulation resultsare used to compare between these techniques.
