Abstract:
The focus of this study is the competitiveness and the competitive advantages ofthe Egyptian Construction and Contracting services sector. It acts as a problematicissue that erupts due to the lack of a standard approach used to measure the degree ofcompetitiveness of that sector - indeed an issue of a tremendous importance. Theshortage and insufficiency of measurement standards has been deduced throughexcessive examination of the previous researches, whether on the local measures or onthe international analytical scales. The previous researches also showed that suchrequired standard model has to cope with the various perspectives and the versifiedscales through the various and interrelated (scattered) fields, i.e. widespread chainvalue. Most of them were unexplored by any previous model, and usually notcombined together in a single analytical model.Another importance is related mainly to two parties; the policy makers andpersonnel responsible for the Egyptian contractor sector’s exports. They are in need ofa basic model! standard measure to practically evaluate the competitive position of theEgyptian construction companies compared to their counterparts in the internationalmarkets.Globalization of the Egyptian economy produces more stresses on the Egyptianfirms of the construction sector. It has become an open sector. It is experienced byintensive global competition and market pressures. The message that should bedelivered to the Egyptian construction and contracting sector is that within the nextyears, the sector should witness a sound increase in its competitive level both locallyand internationally. They are pushed aggressively towards the way of usingcompetition and co-operation as dual path to growth. Huge revenues both locally andinternationally are the keys to promising future. To examine this issue, the following issues have been addressed:* A throughout exhibition of the historical background of the Egyptianconstruction and contracting sector development since the beginning of theEgyptian 1952 revolution till to date, with a special focus on the 90’s decade.
